Born 8 August 1920 in Blackfoot, Bingham Co., Idaho, as Victor G. Smith to George Henry Smith (1884-1958) and Christie Isabelle (Sharp) Smith (1883-1939), and had several siblings, including, Nora Smith (1907-1931), Leo George Smith (1910-1944), Lewis Samuel Smith (1912-1996), William Sharp Smith (1916-2007) and another brother and sister.

 

Enlisted 7 April 1942 while residing in Columbus, Franklin Co., OH, with three years of college at Fort Hayes, Columbus, Ohio (enlisted service # 15125205). With 1stLt Smith as pilot, B-25C, 41-12966, of the 10th Air Force, 341st Bomb Group, 491st Bomb Squadron, departed the airfield at Chakulia, India, on 30 October 1943, at about 0930 hours, in rain, poor visibility and IFR weather. The family had a death certificate issued in Utah and placed a grave marker when his remains were recovered in the Chittagong Hills, Burma, and buried in the Lehi City Cemetery, Lehi, Utah, 28 May 1949.
