Carol, with the help of her son, Wayne, and layout editor, started Lake Publishing Company and began publishing poetry and her books, "AQUEUS and other Tales," "How We Got Here From There: One Family's Odyssey," "Soundings: A Poetry Anthology," "I, Mancha" and "Gatherings," as well as innumerable newspaper and magazine articles. Her fiction credits include Ski Magazine, Green's Magazine, Young World, Fiction West, North Dakota Review, Western Ohio Journal and Tucumcari Literary Review. Carol's professional organizations included Off Campus Writers' Workshop, Pen Women, Society of Midland Authors, Society for the Study of Midwestern Literature and The Writers.

 

Arthur W. Zipperian enlisted in the USAAF on 28 May 1942 Great Falls Montana (enl. Svc # 19071959). He completed the numerous pre-flight and flight schools and was rated for multi-engine aircraft. He died in the crash. The remains of those who were lost in the crash were recovered by Graves Registration and returned to the U.S. for burial. The science of the time did not allow the team to distinguish which remains were whose and McHenry, Zipperian and Raubitschek were buried on 19 July 1949 in a single casket group burial at Arlington National Cemetery.

RAUBITSCHEK, IRVING, Second Lieutenant, # 0-798878, USAAF

 

Irving Raubitschek was born 17 October 1920 in Manhattan, New York, New York. Research did not produce reasonably reliable information about family so assistance would be appreciated so that we can honor this fallen hero properly. Before leaving for India, he married Sylvia. He enlisted on 23 January 1942 in New York, New York. He completed the schools (Tucson, AZ, El Paso, TX) needed to become a navigator on the B-24D and was sent overseas to India. He was killed in the crash of the B-24D. The remains of those who were lost in the crash were recovered by Graves Registration and returned to the U.S. for burial.
