DOYAL, HORACE B., Staff Sergeant, # 14139069, USAAF

 

Horace B. Doyal was born 27 December 192 in Cobb, Georgia, to William Horace Doyal (1891-1970) and Vera (McBrayer) Doyal (1895-1964). He had at least two siblings, Edna Florence Doyal (1925-2001) and Ireland Doyal (1926-    ).

 

He enlisted 28 September 1942 in Fort McPherson, Atlanta, Georgia. He was trained as an armorer (gun repair) and a gunner on the B-24 then was sent overseas to India. He bailed out of the B-24D as it was plunging to earth. He was soon captured and imprisoned in the Rangoon Cantonment as a POW. He was freed about 4 May 1945 and, with medical care, was returned to the U.S. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He died 27 September 1982

 

 

LUKAS, BENEDICT ANTHONY, Staff Sergeant, # 32559293, USAAF

 

Benedict A. Lukas was born 21 May 1915 in Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey, to Mary Lukas.

 

He enlisted on 28 September 1942 in Newark, New Jersey, and was trained as an armorer (gun repair) and a gunner on the B-24 then was sent overseas to India. He bailed out of the B-24D as it was plunging to earth. He was soon captured and imprisoned in the Moulmein POW prison and Rangoon Cantonment (former British prison) as a POW. He was freed about 4 May 1945 and, with medical care, was returned to the U.S. He was honorably discharged 30 November 1945. He died 3 February 2001.
