It was last contacted by radio with SSgt Robert F. Ethridge, 14151748, at about 1740 hours IST. The crew and passenger were:

Wayne F. DeCapito was born on 15 May 1918 n Sullivan Co., Missouri, to Wilson Fredrick DeCapito (1895-1941) (MO) and Ruth (Payne) Hackney nee DeCapito (1895-1989) (IA). A sister was Mary Alouise (DeCapito) Utz (1915-1996) (MO). He graduated from Excelsior Springs H.S. in 1936 and  attended the University of Oklahoma. He married Patricia Gemell (1919-2016). 

 

He registered for the WW II draft on 16 October 1940 and described himself as 5’11”, 162 lbs, with blond hair and blue eyes. After enlisting, he completed flight instruction through advanced schools, was multi-engine rated, and earned his commission and pilot wings. On 8 October 1944, a C-47A, # 100595, assigned to 10th Air Force, 443rd Troop Carrier Group, 1st Troop Carrier Squadron, departed the airfield at Myitkyina, Burma, for Sookerating, India, on a cargo (food) supply mission. After recovery of indistinguish-able remains, 1stLt DeCapito, 2ndLt Bedette, and SSgt Bowman’s remains were buried in a common grave in the Keokuk National Cemetery, Keokuk, Lee Co., Iowa (Sec. D, Grave 187).
