A rescue search unit reported finding the crashed C-46 with all crewmen killed on 28 October 1944, at about 25 miles SW of Shingbwiyang, Burma, and about 6 miles East of Ramnu, Burma. All crewmen were identified by dog tags and the pilot by an ID bracelet. He is remembered on the memorial wall of the missing in the Manila American Cemetery & Memorial, Philippines. He was awarded the Air Medal.

 

His brother, Hugh B. Vail, born 28 March 1919, served as a pilot in the USAAF from 7 September 1940 to his commission on 25 April 1941 as a Second Lieutenant to his promotion to Lieutenant Colonel on 5 December 1946. He was released from the USAAF 28 July 1947 as a Lt.Col. He died on 26 November 1994 and is buried in the Curlew Hills Memorial Cemetery, Palm Harbor, Florida.

GLAZE, MORRIS C., Corporal, # 19146146, USAAF

 

Morris C. Glaze was born on 14 Novemer 1913 in Missour to Homer Harrison Glaze (1884-1952) and Geneva (Patterson) Glaze (1888-1953). A sister was Dorothy (Glaze) Hailey (1914-1944). He was married to Ruby (Mash) Duzak nee Glaze (1916-1998).

 

He enlisted in the USAAF in Tacoma, Washington, on 16 October 1942. He was trained in the maintenance and repair of the mechanical parts of the B-24/C-87. He earned his crewman wings. He was sent overseas to India. On 20 October 1944, a C-46, # 42-107300, assigned to 20th Air Force, Air Transport Command, 1337th AAF Base Unit, departed the airfield at Luliang, China, on a routive flight, returning to Sookerating, India. The last contact was in the vicinity of Ledo, India, at about 0021 hours.
