On 8 June 1944, a C-47, # 42-32866, assigned to the Air Transport Command, I.C.W., Station 10, departed the airfield at Tingkawk Sakan, Burma, on a return trip to the airfield at Sookerating, India, after a supply mission. The last contact with the C-47 was by radio with Tingkawk Sakan, SSgt John L. Fries, 12044688. The crew, killed in action, were:

GILMAN, DONALD F., First Lieutenant, # 0-740401, USAAF

 

Donald F. Gilman was born on 8 July 1921 in California to Frank Holland Gilman (1892-1932) (MO) and Viola Mary (Slovich) Stong nee Gilman (1896-1964). In 1930 his father was employed as an oil well engineer.  

 

After joining the USAAF, he completed flight training and was rated for multi-engine aircraft. He earned his commission and pilot wings. He was sent overseas to India. On 8 June 1944, a C-47, # 42-32866, assigned to the Air Transport Command, I.C.W., Station 10, departed the airfield at Tingkawk Sakan, Burma, on a return trip to the airfield at Sookerating, India, after a supply mission. The last contact with the C-47 was by radio with Tingkawk Sakan. The crew was killed in action. His remains were buried in the Liberty Veterans Cemetery, Fresno, California.

ELDON, GEORGE B., Second Lieutenant, # 0-800497, USAAF

 

George B. Eldon was born on 26 July 1921 in Massachusetts, to Walter Eldon (1886-1951) (born in England) and (1) Elizabeth (Turner) Eldon (1883-1916) and (2) Hannah Jane (Bradshaw) Eldon (1885-1974) (born in England). Siblings include William Eldon (1907-1951) (England), Lena Eldon (1910-    ), Margaret Bradshaw (Eldon) Holewka (1918-1995) and Hiram Bradshaw Eldon (1925-2012).
