LaVern H. Becker was born on 12 June 1919 in Michigan to Herbert Charles Becker (1886-1930) and Maude Blythe (Anderson) Becker (1887-1976). A sister was Donna Christine Becker (1911-1968). He was married to Catherine Janet (Carman) Becker (1920-2009) 95 S. Washington St, Oxford, Michigan.
He enlisted in the USAAF in Michigan on 4 March 1943. He was selected for training as a bombardier for the B-29 Superfortress. On 7 December 1944, a B-29, # 42-6262, named “Round Trip Ticket,” assigned to 20th Air Force, Duchkundi, India, 444th Bomb Group, 678th Bomb Squadron, departed the airfield at Kwanghan, China, on a combat mission, to Mukden, Manchuria. It was last sighted at 0330 Zulu at about 38º North, 118º East, after being attacked by an enemy fighter, dropping out of formation, and losing altitude until others in the formation could no longer see the aircraft. The crew was killed in the subsequent crash. His remains were recovered and returned to the U.S. to be buried in Eastlawn Cemetery, Lake Orion, Michigan.
