The last contact, Baumeister was over the Chin hills on course the the Cittagong airfield after leaving another fighter that crash-landed there. Capt. Duke called him and asked for Baumeister’s position and then for altitude. Baumeister told Duke that he was low on fueld and returning to base. Duke replied “Okay, kid.” That was the last contact. He is remembered on the monument in the Manila American Cemetery & Mausoleum, Philippines. He was an ace plus more enemy killed. His remains were recovered in 2012 and were sent home for burial in the Old Saint Aloysius Cemetery, Leonardtown, MD. He was awarded the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal and others.
