RICHARDSON, DONALD G., First Lieutenant, # 0-205761, USAAF

 

Donald G. Richardson was born 23 November 1921 in Berthoud, Larimer County, Colorado, to George Conrad Richardson (1896-1957) and Ruth A. (Fine) Richardson (1901-1981). A sister was Shirley Ruth (Richardson) Sherman (1930-2002). He attended Colorado State University. He was married to Twila F. (Fox) Richardson, 206 Lyell St., Monte Vista, Colorado.

 

He enlisted 4 January 1943 in Colorado. After completing initial pilot training, he completed the advanced courses and was rated for the four-engine B-24 and thus earned his commission and pilot wings. On 20 May 1944, at about 1600 hours, a B-24J, # 42-73317, “Puck” assigned to the 308th Bomb Group, 373rd Bomb Squadron (Heavy), 14th Air Force departed Luichow, China, on a sea sweep combat mission, to land at Yangkai, China. It was speculated that anti-aircraft fire brought it down. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster, and a Purple Heart. A memorial marker is placed in the Fort William McKinley American Cemetery, Manila, Philippines. A marker was placed in the Del Norte Cemetery, Del Norte, Colorado.

MUNSON, FRANK LEWIS, JR, First Lieutenant, # 0-674610, USAAF

 

Frank L. Munson Jr. was born in 27 January 1920 in Detroit, Michigan, to Frank L. Munson (1881-1958) and Marjorie Louise (Worthington) Munson (1891-1955). Siblings included Alice Isabel Munson (1918-2009), Rosalie Anne Munson (1924-2012) and another sister, Sarah Louise Munson. In 1942 his mother lived at 50 Congress Ave., Rochester, New York.

 

He enlisted 28 February 1942 at Fort Niagara, New York. After completing initial pilot training, he completed the advanced courses and was rated for the four-engine B-24 and thus earned his commission and pilot wings.
