On 19 May 1944 a B-24J, # 42-73516, assigned to 14th Air Force, 308th Bomb Group, 375th Bomb Squadron, Kweilin, China, departed its airfield on a sea sweep combat mission and was seen to crash at about 0718 Zulu at coordinates 20° 15’ North & 114° 32’ East. It was shot down by anti-aircraft about 100 miles Southeast of St. John’s Island, South East China Sea. He is remembered on the tablets of the missing in the Manila American Cemetery & Memorial, Philippines. A memorial marker was placed in the Industry Cemetery, Industry, McDonough Co., Illinois. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
His brother, John W. Miller, born 29 March 1918, served in the USAAF, Sergeant, from 4 May 1942. He died on 6 April 2008 and is buried in the Industry Cemetery, Industry, McDonough Co., Illinois.
