On 15 June 1944, a C-47A, # 43-15395, assigned to the 443rd Troop Carrier Group, 2nd Troop Carrier Squadron, departed the 10th Air Force airfield at Dinjan, Assam, India, on an air aupply mission to Myitkina, Burma. It was an IFR flight. The last contact was by radio at about 1126 hours Indian Standard Time with SSgt William R. Chattin, 15017744. The crew were:

LARSEN, HAROLD JOHN, Second Lieutenant, # 0-738417, USAAF

 

Harold J. Larsen was born on 28 October 1921 in Huston, Canyon County, Idaho, to Earl Stephen Larsen (1900-1974) and Lottie Pearl (Cordingly) Larsen nee Daniel (1903-1967). He was a 1939 graduate of Gooding High School.

 

He registered for the WW II draft 16 February 1942 and described himself as 5’10”, 151 lbs, with brown hair and gray eyes. He enlisted in the USAAF at Gowan Field, Boise, Idaho, on 11 March 1942. He completed flight training and was rated for multi-engine aircraft. He earned his commission and pilot wings. On 15 June 1944, a C-47A, # 43-15395, assigned to the 443rd Troop Carrier Group, 2nd Troop Carrier Squadron, departed the 10th Air Force airfield at Dinjan, Assam, India, on an air aupply mission to Myitkina, Burma. It was an IFR flight. The last contact was by radio at about 1126 hours Indian Standard Time. His remains were buried in the Elmwood Cemetery, Gooding, Idaho, in October, 1949 (Sec. 2, Row 2).

GILBERT, JULES, First Lieutenant, # 0-794320, USAAF

 

Jules Gilbert was born 4 May 1920 in New York. He enlisted 13 December 1942. He completed flight training and was rated for multi-engine aircraft. He earned his commission and pilot wings. He was sent oveerseas to India, assigned to 10th Air Force, Air Transport Command, Station 19 airfield of the India-China Wing. On 15 June 1944, a C-47A, # 43-15395, assigned to the 443rd Troop Carrier Group, 2nd Troop Carrier Squadron, departed the 10th Air Force airfield at Dinjan, Assam, India, on an air aupply mission to Myitkina, Burma. It was an IFR flight. The last contact was by radio at about 1126 hours Indian Standard Time. After removal from the airfield cemetery in India, his remains were returned to the U.S. and buried in the Mount Hebron Cemetery, Flushing, New York.
