STOWERS, CLARENCE ARNOLD, Corporal, # 16154736, USAAF

 

Clarence A. Stowers was born 26 October 1924 in Wisconsin to Clarence William Stowers (1877-1944) and Clara M. (Morse) Stowers (1886-1968). Siblings included Roland M. Stowers (1908-1984), Irma I. (Stowers) Johnson (1915-2013), Mabel Bernice (Stowers) Wolfram (1918-2000), and Herbert Eugene Stower (1920-1995).

 

He enlisted in the USAAF in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on 4 November 1942. He was trained in the maintenance and operation of the radio equipment on the C-47 and earned his crewman wings. He was sent over seas to India. On 11 June 1944, C-47A, # 43-15403, 443rd Troop Carrier Group, 2nd Troop Carrier Squadron, departed the 10th Air Force airfield at Dinjan, India, on an air supply mission to the map coordinates 22R SC2562, Burma. The aircraft crashed near Kum Gahtawng, Burma. Five of the crew were killed. His remains were recovered and first buried at the airfield cemetery in India and, in time, buried in the Spring Grove Cemetery in 1948.

GRAHAM, HAROLD A., Technician 5th Grade, # 35366086, U.S. Army

 

Harold A. Graham was born 27 October 1921 in Indiana to John Graham (1896-1965) and Vera Anita (Brown) Graham (1899-1953). Sisters were Mary Jane Graham (1921-1933) and Margaret “Peg” (Graham) Reed (1923-2014).

 

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on 2 September 1942. After training at Fort Lee, Virginia, at the Quartermast Headquarters & Schools, he was sent over seas to India, assigned to the 478th Quaartermaster Battalion, 3841st Quartermaster Truck Company. Frank J. Ploski was born 12 October 1921 in Larksville, Pennsylvania, to Frank Ploski (1889-1957) (born Poland) and Veronica (Shucoski) Ploski (1903-1995). Siblings included Mary Gertrude (Ploski) Sterowski (1917-2003), Joseph Edmund Ploski (1924-2012), and Edward Anthony Ploski (1929-2001).
