The pilot was 2ndLt Edward E. Bell Jr., # 0-705527. He was last seen by 2ndLt Harry C. Moore, 0-711850.

Edward E. Bell Jr. was born on 5 January 1922 in Jones Co., North Carolina, to Edward Earl Bell (1889-1972) and Nannie Badger (Creagh) Bell (1899-1969). He had a brother, Hiram Creagh Bell (1923-1996).

 

He registered for the WW II draft on 30 June 1942 and described himself as 5’6”, 150 lbs, with blond hair and blue eyes. After enlisting in the USAAF, he completed flight instruction and advanced flight schools. He earned his commission and pilot wings. He was sent overseas to 10th Air Force in India. On 21 October 1944, a P40-N-20, # 43-23464, assigned to 14th Air Force, 23rd Fighter Group, 76th Fighter Squadron, departed Linchow, China, on a bombing and strafing mission to Konghow, China. The pilot was 2ndLt Edward E. Bell Jr., # 0-705527. He was last seen by 2ndLt Harry C. Moore, 0-711850. After recovery of his remains, he was buried in the Pollocksville Cemetery, Pollocksville, North Carolina.
