He registered for the WWII draft on 30 June 1942, resided on Townsend Rd, Groves, Jefferson Co., TX, and described himself as 5’10 ½”, 150 lbs, with brown hair and eyes. He noted that he had  deformed fingernails. He enlisted in the USAAF in Texas on 6 August 1942. He was trained to maintain and operate the radio equipment on the C-87/B-24 Liberator Espress. He earned his crewman wings. He was sent overseas to India. On 18 March 1944 a C-87 (B-24 Express Liberator cargo variant), # 43-30575, assigned to 10th Air Force, India-China Wing, Eastern Sector, departed the airfield at Chengtu, China, at 0558 Zulu on a cargo mission to Jorhat, India, through the Himalayan mountain range (the Hump). After recovery, his remains were buried in the Saint Alphonsus Cemetery, Maurice, Vermillion Parish, Louisiana.
