On 24 September 1944, a C-87 Liberator Express (transport variant of the B-24 Liberator), # 43-30614, assigned to Air Transport Command, 1327th AAF Base Unit, Tezpur, China, departed the airfield at Hsinching, China, on a cargo mission to Tezpur, India, through the Himalayan mountain rnge (the Hump). George M. Hout was born in 1924 in Maine to Everett Wilmer Hout (1899-1955) (OH) and Ella Elizabeth (Silsby) Wilbur nee Hout (1904-1976) (ME) (married 10 February 1923, Bar Harbor, ME). He has a half-sister. Ella E (Silsby) Hout married Herbert Tilden Wilbur (1911-1947) on 3 Jul 1942; thus must have divorced Everett W. Hout, who married Martha M. Green on 9 July 1942.

 

After enlisting in the USAAF, he completed flight instruction through advanced flight schools and was multi-engine rated. He earned his commission and pilot wings. He was sent overseas to India. On 24 September 1944, a C-87 (transport modified B-24), # 43-30614, assigned to Air Transport Command, 1327th AAF Base Unit, Tezpur, China, departed the airfield at Hsinching, China, on a cargo mission to Tezpur, India.
