WILLIAMS, JOHNNIE G., Staff Sergeant, # 34060256, U.S. Army

 

Johnnie G. Williams was born in 1918 in Georgia to Robert Williams (1888-1971) and Minnie (Ward)Williams (1893-1976). Siblings included Eddie Mae (Williams) Sadler (1913-2002), Violet Ruth (Williams) Webb (1921-1980), Annie Lou (Williams) Frye (1922-2010), Mattie Evelyn (Williams) Thomas (1925-1997), and Robbie Lee (Williams) Findley (1930-    ). He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned overseas. On 19 August 1944, a C-47A, # 43-30640, assigned to 10th Air Force, 443rd Troop Carrier Group, 2nd Troop Carrier Squadron, departed the airfield at Shingbwiyang, Burma, on an air supply mission with passengers to the airfield at Myitkyina, Burma. It was last near Tingkawk-Sakan, Burma, at about 0633 hrs. The C-47 crashed and all aboard were killed. He was a passenger and is remembered on the memorial wall of the missing in the Manila American Cemetery & Memorial, Philippines. 

BRAY, LEROY, Technician 5th Grade, # 34060332, U.S. Army

 

Leroy Bray was born 1923 in Georgia and adopted by John Bray (1871-1964) and Daisy (Rivers) Bray (1884-1965). Siblings included Edgar Bray (1897-1966), Minnie (Bray) Shelton (1898-1992), Earnest Bray (1899-    ), Veader Bray (1901-    ), Gladys (Bray) Leslie (1908-    ), Beuford Bray (1903-    ), Charlie H. Bray (1904-    ), Cecil Bray (1906-    ), Glenys Bray (1911-    ), Garner Bray (1916-    ), Willie Roy Bray (1918-    ), Luweeda (Bray) Thurston (1920-    ). He enlisted in the U.S. Army at Fort Benning, Georgia, on 29 March 1941. He was assigned overseas. On 19 August 1944, a C-47A, # 43-30640, assigned to 10th Air Force, 443rd Troop Carrier Group, 2nd Troop Carrier Squadron, departed the airfield at Shingbwiyang, Burma, on an air supply mission with passengers to the airfield at Myitkyina, Burma. Bray, born 13 April 1917, served in the U.S. Army from 25 May 1942 to 30 October 1945. He died 26 September 1997 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery.

RUSH, O’NEAL, Technician 5th Grade, # 34090279, U.S. Army

 

O’Neal Rush was born on 12 October 1919 in South Carolina to Charlie Rush (1884-    ) and Annie M. (Phillips) Rush (1883-    ). Siblings included Alice Rush (1906-    ), Margaret Rush (1908-    ), Washington R. Rush (1910-1977), Mary (Rush) Rogers (1912-1960), and James R. Rush (1919-1998). He was married to Katherine (Jenkins) Rush (1922-2013). He enlisted in the U.S. Army at Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina, on 3 April 1941. He was assigned overseas. On 19 August 1944, a C-47A, # 43-30640, assigned to 10th Air Force, 443rd Troop Carrier Group, 2nd Troop Carrier Squadron, departed the airfield at Shingbwiyang, Burma, on an air supply mission with passengers to the airfield at Myitkyina, Burma. It was last near Tingkawk-Sakan, Burma, at about 0633 hrs. The C-47 crashed and all aboard were killed. He was a passenger and is remembered on the memorial wall of the missing in the Manila American Cemetery & Memorial, Philippines. A memorial marker was placed in the Saint John Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery, Galivants Ferry, Horry Co., South Carolina. His brother, James R. Rush, born 15 April 1919, served in the U.S. Army from 8 January 1943 to 3 January 1946. He died 2 September 1998.
