He enlisted in the USAAF in Queens Co., NY, on 31 January 1942. He was trained in the dual role of navigator and bombardier for the B-25 Mitchell. He earned his commission and pilot wings. He was sent overseas to 10th Air Force in India. On 19 August 1944, a B-25H5, # 43-4213, assigned to 10th Air Force, 12th Bomb Group, 83rd Bomb Squadron, departed the airfield at Feni, India, on a bombing misionover Monywa, Burma. The B-25 was seen to crash about 10 miles SE of Kangamati, India, at about 0945 hours. SSgt Lester C. Bartlett, 39856237, saw the crash. One parachute was used. After its bomb run, it lost altitude and a parachute exited. The B-25 crashed and burned. Then the bombs on board exploded. After recovery from the American military airfield cemetery at Barrackpore, India, his remains and those of other crewmen were buried in a group ceremony together in Zachary Taylor National Cemetery, Louisville, Kentucky, on 14 May 1949 (Sec. E, Grave 55).

William Harasimowicz (later also known as Harris) was born on 24 March 1920 in Hamtramck, Michigan, to Walter Harasimowicz (1895-1957) (Poland) and Mary (Stabinski) Harasimowicz (1899-1956) (Poland). Siblings included Laura (Harasimowicz) Shaffer (1916-1979), Dorothy Veronica (Harasimowicz) Wozniak (1925-1989), Chester Harasimowicz (aka Harris) (1929-1990)

On 19 August 1944, a B-25H5, # 43-4213, assigned to 10th Air Force, 12th Bomb Group, 83rd Bomb Squadron, departed the airfield at Feni, India, on a bombing misionover Monywa, Burma. He was honorably discharged 29 January 1946. He died 8 April 1990 and is buried in the Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township, Macomb Co., Michigan.
