He registered for the WWII draft, resided at 80 Waddell St. NE, Atlanta, Fulton Co., GA, and described himself as 5’11”, 145 lbs, with brown hair and eyes. He enlisted in the USAAF at Fort McPherson, Atlanta, Georgia, on 3 August 1942. He was trained to maintain and operate radio equipment and was receiving on-the-job training on the C-46 Commando. He earned his crewman wings and was sent overseas to India. On 6 February 1945 a Curtiss C-46A Commando, # 43-46983, assigned 10th Air Force, 1337th AAF Base Unit, departed the airfield at Kunming, China, on a cargo mission through the Himalayan mountain range (the Hump) to Sookerating, India. Last contact was at about 2330 hours IST with Chabua, India. It crashed enroute and the crew was killed. He is remembered on the tablets of the missing in the Manila American Cemetery & Memorial, Philippines. He is remembered in the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery, Carroll Co., Georgia.
