PIERPONT, GEORGE HOBART, First Lieutenant, # 0-802781, USAAF

 

George H. Pierpont was born on 9 March 1919 in Salem, Roanoke, Virginia to George Earle Pierpont (1885-1970) (CT) and Anna Clayton (White) Pierpont (1883-1956) (VA). Siblings were Nellie White (Pierpont) Goodwin (1916-1989), Nancy Clayton Pierpont (1921-2008). His father was an assistant manager of abrick manufacturer in 1920 and a brick manufacturer manager in 1930-1940.

 

He registered for the WWII draft in 1940, a student in Virginia Polytechnic Institute, Blackburg, VA, resided at 194 W. Main St., Salem, VA, and described himself as 5’11”, 148 lbs, with brown hair and blue eyes. He enlisted in the USAAF in Richmond, Virginia, on 12 March 1942. After enlisting in the USAAF, he completed flight instruction through advanced schools and was multi-engine rated. He earned his commission and pilot wings. He was sent overseas through India to China.
