ZIELINSKI, JOHN PAUL, JR., Corporal. # 37320734, USAAF

 

John P. Zielinski Jr. was born on 25 November 1921 in Hennepin Co., Minnesota, to John P. Zielinski and (Blalek) Zielinski. A brother was Walter John Zielinski (1925-    ). He married Rose M. Vesely on 4 September 1942 in Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois.

 

He registered for the WWII draft on 16 February 1942, resided at 3754 N. 4th St., Minneapolis, Minnesota, employed by B.F. Nelson Manuf. Co., and described himself as 5’10”, 162 lbs, with brown hair and eyes. After enlisting in the USAAF on 13 December 1941, he was trained to maintain and operate the radio equipment on the B-24 Liberator. He earned his crewman wings. He was sent overseas to India. On 28 July 1945, a B-24J, # 44-41222, “Lovable Lorena,” assigned to 10th Air Force, 7th Bomb Group, 492nd Bomb Squadron, departed the airfield at Tezpur, India, and, on departure, the B-24 crashed. All were killed in the crash except PFC Taylor, who died of wounds on 2 August 1945. After recovery, his remains were buried in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Hennepin Co., Minnesota, on 10 June 1948 (Sec. A, Block 26, Grave 7240).

TAYLOR, FRANK BURK, JR., Private First Class, # 18007138, USAAF

 

Frank B. Taylor Jr. was born on 15 March 1922 in Blooming Grove, Navarro Co., Texas, to Frank B. Taylor (1894-1972) and Maureta Grady (Spivey) Taylor (1900-1984) (married 5 March 1920 in Ellis, Texas). He was a graduate of Corsicana High School and attended A&M College.

 

After enlisting in the USAAF, he was trained to maintain and rerpair the mechanical systems of the B-24 Liberator. He earned his crewman wings. He was sent overseas to India. On 28 July 1945, a B-24J, # 44-41222, “Lovable Lorena,” assigned to 10th Air Force, 7th Bomb Group, 492nd Bomb Squadron, departed the airfield at Tezpur, India, and, on departure, the B-24 crashed. His father, born 24 August 1894, served in the U.S. Army from 5 August 1917 to 28 May 1919. He died on 15 January 1972 and is buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Blooming Grove, Navarro Co., Texas.
