Gordon H. Tucker was born in 1922 in Wisconsin to Charles E. Tucker (1899-1978) and Edna Devina Tucker (1900-1984). He was married to Kathryn L. Tucker of Dane, Wisconsin.

 

After enlisting, he completed flight instruction through advanced schools and was assigned to fly the B-24 Liberator (C-109 variant, the Express Liberator). He was multi-engine rated and earned his commission and pilot wings. On 30 July 1945 a C-109, # 44-48999, assigned to 10th Air Force, 1347th AAF Base Unit, Shamshernager, India, departed the airfield on a cargo mission through the Himalayan mountain range (the Hump) to Luhsien, China. Last contact was by radio at about 2223 Zulu when it was near Tulihal, India. He is remembered on the tablets of the missing in the Manila American Cemetery & Memorial, Philippines. He was awarded the Air Medal.

 

His father, born 18 May 1899, served in the U.S. Army during WWI from 7 October 1918 to 14 December 1918. He died 21 January 1978 and is buried in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Lodi, Columbia Co., Wisconsin.

He enlisted in the USAAF at Chanute Field, Illinois, on 17 July 1941. He was trained to maintain and operate the radio equipment on the B-24/C-109 Express Liberator. He earned his crewman wings. He was sent overseas to India. On 30 July 1945 a C-109, # 44-48999, assigned to 10th Air Force, 1347th AAF Base Unit, Shamshernager, India, departed the airfield on a cargo mission through the Himalayan mountain range (the Hump) to Luhsien, China.
