It had to fly IFR through monsoon weather conditions. Its last known location was in the vicinity of Akyab, Burma. Last radio contact was with Headquarters, R.A.F. 231st Group (British), Calcutta, India. Search was led by the 222nd Air Sea Rescue Group. It was believed the B-24 crashed in the Bay of Bengal near Akyab, Burma. He is remembered on the wall of the missing in the Manila American Cemetery & Memorial, Philippines. A memorial marker was placed in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia (Sec. MMI, Site 177). He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
