JOHNSON, ALBERT CHRISTIAN, Technical Sergeant, # 33190179, USAAF

 

Albert C. Johnson was born 26 December 1905 in Forman, North Dakota to Ole B. Johnson (1863-1930) and Emma Marie (Peterson) Johnson (1875-1964). He was baptized 1 July 1906. He registered for the WW II draft in 1940, describing himself as 5’6”, 155 lbs, with brown hair and blue eyes (kin – O B Johnson). He enlisted at Fort Myer, Virginia, on 12 May 1942, with one year of college, while living on Delaware Avenue S.W. in Washington, D.C. with his brother, Homer Johnson (1911-    ) and his mother, Emma Johnson (1875-    ). Other siblings included: Verna Anna Johnson (1895-    ), Eleanor J. Johnson (1897-1980), Omar Edward Johnson (1899-1900), Rudolph H. Johnson (1904-1986), and Elsie M. Johnson (1908-1986), Omar Johnson (1911-1964) and Mona Shirley Johnson (1915-2002). He died in the crash of the B-24J upon which he was the engineer. The bomber was shot down after a bombing mission over Insein, Burma. Families placed a memorial marker in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, Missouri. His family included a memorial marker for him in the Forman Cemetery, Forman, North Dakota.

SODERSTROM, ROLAND E., Technical Sergeant, # 37294533, USAAF

 

Roland E. Soderstrom was born in 1905 in North Dakota. He married Angie Price on 3 January 1942 in California. He enlisted 2 August 1942. He died in the crash of the B-24J. The bomber was shot down after a bombing mission over Insein, Burma. His remains were part of the group burial on 23 September, 1949, in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, Missouri. after the remains of he and members of his crew were recovered by a Graves Registration team.

BENDER, JOHN DEMETRIUS, Staff Sergeant, # 33276178, USAAF

 

Born 9 September 1906 in 414 Western Avenue, East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, John D. Bender was the sixth child to William Bender (1854-1907) and M. Helen “Ellie” (McDermott) Bender (1864-1951). The 1910 census for East Pittsburgh, PA, lists Ellie Bender, 46, William R. Bender, 22 (1887-1966), Mary Jane (Bender) Miller, 9 (1902-    ), John D. Bender, 3, Augustin McDermott, 74 (1835-1913), widowed, Ellie’s father, and Frank McDermott, 44 (1866-1944), Ellie’s brother.
