On 13 March 1945 a Curtiss C-46A Commando, “Stork,” # 41-24705, assigned to 10th Air Force, 1333rd AAF Base Unit, Chabua, India, departed the airfield on a cargo mission to Kunming, China, through the Himalayan mountain range (the Hump). The crew, killed in action, was:

The wreckage of the crash was located at 25° 26’ 30” North and 98° 42’ 30” East. The three remains were buried by the ground search party. The next-of-kin were listed as:

Joseph A. Tadych was born on 29 January 1919 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin to Joseph Benjamin Tadych (1894-1978) and Clara (Vnuk) Tadych (1896-1944). Siblings included Valentine Tadych (1917- ), Reinhardt Leroy Tadych (1922-2001), Lorraine Marie (Tadych) Lesperance (1925-1998), Harold Tadych (1931- ). He graduated from Lincoln High School.
He enlisted in the USAAF on 18 January 1941. He completed pilot training and earned his commission and pilot wings. He was sent overseas to India. On 13 March 1945 a Curtiss C-46A Commando, “Stork,” # 41-24705, assigned to 10th Air Force, 1333rd AAF Base Unit, Chabua, India, departed the airfield on a cargo mission to Kunming, China, through the Himalayan mountain range (the Hump). The C-46 crashed enroute and was not located. He is remembered on the tablets of the missing in the Manila American Cemetery & Memorial, Philippines. A memorial marker was placed in the Saint Marys Cemetery, Monitowac, Manitowac Co., Missouri.
