RADICS, FRANK A., JR., Technical Sergeant, # 35542739, USAAF


Frank A. Radics Jr. was born 1923 to Ferencz (Frank) A. Radics (1891-1946) (Bolo, Hungary – naturalized 1936) and Mary (Toth) Radics (1892-1981) but noted his mother as Rozalia “Rose” (Nagy) Radics (1889-1965) (married 7 September 1912 in IN). Siblings were Frank Radics (1913-    ), Tressa Radics (1914-    ).


He enlisted in the USAAF in Toledo, Ohio, on 19 January 1943. He was trained to maintain and operate the radio equipment on the C-46 Commando. He was sent overseas to India. On 25 May 1945 a Curtiss C-46A Commando, # 41-24749, assigned to 10th Air Force, Air Transport Command, India-China Wing, departed the airfield at Mohanbari, India, on a cargo mission to the airfield at Myitkyina, Burma. It crashed into a mountainside enroute and the crew was killed. The remains of the crew were indistinguishable and were buried in a group grave and ceremony in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, Missouri, on 26 August 1949 (Sec. 82, Grave 183). A memorial marker was placed in the Highland Cemetery, South Bend, St. Joseph Co., Indiana.
