Frank J. Kulikowski was born on 16 May 1916 in Chicago, Illinois, to William J. Kulikowski ( and Mary B. (Moniuszko) (Kulikowski (


He registered for the WWII draft on 16 October 1940, resided at 1636 N. Wolcott St., Chicago, IL, and described himself as 5’5”, 135 lbs, with brown hair and blue eyes. He enlisted in the USAAF at Fort Sheridan, Illinois, on 7 August 1941. After enlisting, he was trained to maintain and monitor the mechanical systems (crew chief) on the Curtiss C-46 Commando. He earned his crewman wings. He was sent overseas to India. On 23 October 1943 a C-46A Commando assigned to 10th Air Force, 30th Troop Carrier Group, 304th Troop Carrier Squadron, Mohanbari, India, departed the airfield on a cargo mission through the Himalayan mountain range (the Hump) to Yunnanyi, China. The C-46 crashed enroute but some crewman survived. He survived and was evacuated to the U.S. for care. He was honorably discharged on 1 January 1945. He died 3 May 2004.
