His brother, Harp P. Peek, born 28 December 1916, served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 5 May 1942 to 28 September 1945. He died 28 June 1990 and is buried in the Florida National Cemetery.

George L. Penn was born on 26 April 1914 in New London, New London Co., Connecticut, to Benjamin F. Penn (1882-193#) (VA) and Sophie Hanzine (Stenerson) Penn (1887-1974) (CT). Siblings included Roy Irving Penn (1910-1998) (Norway – naturalized), Martha Ellen (Penn) Wolff (1911-1997), Ruth I. (Penn) Chappell (1915-1986), Benjamin Arnold Penn (1917-1991), Edith O. Penn (1919-1920).
He enlisted in the USAAF at Fort Devens, Massachusetts, on 19 February 1942. He was trained to maintain and operate the radio equipment on the Curtiss C-46 Commando. He earned his crewman wings. He was sent overseas to India. On 30 June 1945, a C-46A, # 42-101062, assigned to 10th Air Force, Air Transport Command, 1332nd AAF Base Unit, departed the airfield at Mohanbari, India, on a transport mission to Chanyi, China. It was seen to crash at at 1825Z at Mohanbari, India. He is remembered on the wall of the missing in the Manila American Cemetery & Memorial, Philippines. He was awarded the Air Medal.
