HOLLAND, DALE L., Corporal, # 39466008, USAAF

Dale L. Holland enlisted in the USAAF and was trained to maintain and repair the weapons (excluding bombs) on the B-25 Mitchell. He earned his crewman wings. He was sent overseas to India. On 10 July 1945, a B-25C, “Daffy Ann” and “Rhode Island” as nicknames on the nose, # 42-64656, assigned to 10th Air Force, 489th AAF Air Base Squadron, Air Jungle Rescue Detachment, departed the airfield at Bhamo, Burma, on a search mission. The B-25C was seen to crash about 23 miles West of Bhamo, Burma, at 1030 IST. Burmese natives gave vague information but seemed to have seen the B-25 crash and burn. A ground search party was dispatched to investigate on 15 July 1945. After recovery, his remains were buried with those of Corporal Dale L. Holland (indistinguishable) in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, Lemay, Missouri, on 25 August 1949 (Sec. 82, Grave 29).
