William J. Hock was born 4 July 1924 in New York. He enlisted in the USAAF in New York City, New York, on 17 October 1942. He was trained in the maintenance and operation of the military radio equipment used on the C-47A. He earned his crewman wings. He was sent oveerseas to India, assigned to 10th Air Force, Air Transport Command, Station 19 airfield of the India-China Wing. On 15 June 1944, a C-47A, # 43-15395, assigned to the 443rd Troop Carrier Group, 2nd Troop Carrier Squadron, departed the 10th Air Force airfield at Dinjan, Assam, India, on an air aupply mission to Myitkina, Burma. It was an IFR flight. The last contact was by radio at about 1126 hours Indian Standard Time. After removal from the airfield cemetery in Barrackpore, India, his remains were returned to the U.S. and buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific on 20 June 1949 (Sec. Q, Row O, Grave 744).

On 23 August 1944, C-47A, # 43-15381, assigned to 14thAir Force, 14th Transport Squadron, departed the airfield at Cho Lum Pao, China, on a combat cargo mission to the airfield at Kunming, China. The last contact was by radio with radio station NQ-4. The C-47A crashed into mountains in northeast Yunan Province, near Yankai, China, enroute to Kunming from Peishiyi, China. Weather bad; flying IFR. Wreckage found by Chinese soldiers who reported all aboard were dead. The crew and passengers were:
