STAMPER, DALE BRYAN, Staff Sergeant, # 18034203, USAAF


Dale B. Stamper was born on 3 August 1921 in Illinois to Paul Bryan Stamper (1896-1987) and Treva Mae (Miller) Stamper (1896-1975). A sibling was Evelyn Irene (Stamper) Rackham (1919-2004).


He enlisted in the USAAF in Dallas, Texas, on 2 April 1941. He was trained to maintain and operate the radio equipment on the B-25 Mitchell. He earned his crewman wings. He was sent overseas to India. On 30 September 1944 a C47A Skytrain, # 43-15805, assigned to 10th Air Force, 3rd Combat Cargo Group, 11th Combat Cargo Squadron, departed its airfield at Dinjan, India, on an administrative flight to Karagapur, India.  It encountered severe weather near Lalmaniar, India, and crashed. After recovery from the American military cemetery at Kalaikunda, India, his remains were buried in the Memory Park Cemetery, Longview, Harrison Co., Texas.


His father, born 1 May 1986, served in the U.S. Matrine Corps from 8 August 1917 to 28 January 1919. He died on 16 April 1987 and is buried in the Memory Park Cemetery, Longview, Texas.
