His sister, Clara E. Sturtevant, born 16 December 1917, enlisted in the U.S. Army Women’s Corps on 27 February 1945 and was honorably discharged 4 October 1946. She died on 26 August 1992 and is buried in the Gracelawn Memorial Park, Auburn, Maine.

David R. Ferguson was born on 24 August 1925 in Hampden Co., Massachusetts, to David Black Ferguson (1900-1984) and Julia (Dausch) Ferguson (1902-1987). A sister was June Ferguson (1928- ). He enlisted in the USAAF in Springfield, Massachusetts, on 10 November 1943. He was trained to maintain and repair the mechanical systems on the B-24 Liberator (assistant engineer or crew chief). He earned his crewman wings. He was sent overseas to India. On 6 August 1945, a B-24J, “Poco Moco,” # 44-49451, assigned to 14th Air Force, 308th Bomb Group, 375th Bomb Squadron, departed the airfield at Hsinching, China, on a routine fuel transport to the airfield at Rupsi, India. The B-24 was last contacted at 1714Z near Shingbwiyang, Burma. He is remembered on the wall of the missing in the Manila American Cemetery & Memorial, Philippines. A memorial was placed in the Forestdale Cemetery, Holyoke, Hampden Co., Massachusetts. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal.
