The witnesses who last saw the B-24M were SSgt Owen E. Maddox, 35728501, Sgt George A. Fisher, 35882687, and Cpl Jimmie J. Bearden, 18167597. The last in radio contact were LtCol William B. Kyes, 0-425090, and 1stLt Phocian B. Hatten, 0-533189. 7th Bomb Group sent a sortie to search. Air Sea Rescue searched. Sgt Harrell is remembered on the wall of the missing in the Manila American Cemetery & Memorial, Philippines. He was awarded the Air Medal and Purple Heart.
His father, born 22 August 1898, served during WW I, U.S. Navy Reserves, Seaman 2nd Class, # 1708951, resided at 3119 Colerain Ave., Cincinatti, OH. Enlisted 7 August 1918 – active duty started 17 August 1918 – released from active duty on 10 July 1919 - honorable discharge on 20 September 1921. He died 22 January 1984 and is buried in the Arlington Memorial Gardens, Mount Healthy, Ohio.
