The Rangoon Cantonment or prison was used by the Japanese during their invasion of Indochina, Siam and Burma. Prisoners of war included Americans, British, Burmese, Chindits, and others. The prison was built by the British during their colonization of the region. Virtually no medical care was available to the POW and all suffered from enemy physical abuse, toture during interrogations, dysentry, malnutrition and other life-threatening diseases.
